EDF has submitted its Sizewell C application, which has been accepted for examination, despite all reasonable requests that they delay until coronavirus restrictions were over. Help us fight back!
Council Motion to Oppose Sizewell C. On Thursday 9 July, Suffolk County Council will consider this motion by the Liberal Democrat, Green and Independent group of Councillors: “This Council is concerned about the severe environmental impact of Sizewell C on the Suffolk countryside, including the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, and the negative economic implications for the tourism and hospitality industries that will accompany this. In addition, this Council notes the inherent problems with nuclear power as a source of energy. Renewable technologies are better alternatives to nuclear, from both an environmental and financial perspective, and funding and time should be invested in these energy sources instead. Therefore, this Council removes any ‘in principle’ support for nuclear power and agrees to oppose EDF Energy’s development of Sizewell C.”
Suffolk residents can support this motion by writing to your County Councillor, urging them to vote in favour. Find your County Councillor via your postcode here. (This site will also identify your District Councillors and MP; the former will be important in the coming weeks as we understand a similar motion is to be tabled at East Suffolk Council later in July.)
We have not provided suggested text as your messages will be more impactful if they are unique to you, but you may wish to raise some of the points we make in our “Case Against Sizewell C“.
